    Smoking in rehab

    Fri Nov 29, 2019 7:20 pm

I’m going to detox/rehab in 2 weeks for alcohol. I quit smoking cigarettes about 15 years ago until late last year. Now I smoke like I never quit. The rehab says if I want to quit smoking at the same time as booze they’ll give me patches. I do want to quit again but is it too much to do so at the same time as alcohol? I don’t want to jeapordisegetting sober because that’s what’s screwed up my life and my health bit i don’t know. Is it better to do all the stiffening at once or to spread it out. Any ideas?

My thoughts are that, whatever you decide to do, it's important to keep it manageable for you. I can't tell you how much you can fit on your plate, but make sure you don't bite off more than you can chew! Just keep heading in the right direction at a reasonable and comfortable pace, whatever that may look like for you.

Hi thanks for your reply and support, although I would be careful suggesting medical marijuana, especially that it can be triggering for some and is very specific to individual needs to be advise correctly. It is important to get the correct support for you.

    Hi @User 5a53a8099f2ce,

I think this is really different for everybody as @Green mentioned.

For some people, quitting everything at once is easier, just having a clean slate and getting everything out of your system at once. Where as, for others it can be dangerous and add to risk of relapse to try and quit smoking too early in recovery because of the mental distress that can go along with quitting smoking.

I personally didn't quit smoking cigarettes until I'd been clean for about 5 years but that's not say that you should wait that long. I really believe that people recover in different areas at different paces.

I know it's been a long time since you posted this, it would be great to know where you're at now and how the past couple of years has been for you?
