People hosting guests who are in recovery or making change usually want to make it as comfortable as possible for their guest, but often aren't quite sure how. We hear from people who have the best of intentions but are anxious about how to make an event as enjoyable and easy as possible for their guest.

Here are some of our recommendations, but looking forward to hearing yours below
  • Ask them ahead of time if there's anything you can do for them, but also try not to fuss - it's likely they'd rather not make a big deal about it
  • Have enjoyable alcohol-free drink options. Why not get creative and look into mocktails?
  • At the occassion, be respectful and understanding - they may not be feeling too bubbly, or may choose to leave early, make them feel more than welcome to do whatever suits them
  • Don't make the event all about drinking. Are there some games or activities you could do together? Finska is looking like a popular day game this Summer.
  • Consider a refuge space. If your guest is feeling overwhelmed, a quiet space like access to the garden can offer a welcomed moment.
