Re: Monday Meetup - Join us weekly!
What's so different about the weekend?? At the end of the day weekends are just days of the week.............so why is it so much harder to stay abstinent on the weekend?
Is it because there's so much more free time to fill or because of the people we see? The situations we put ourselves in? Do we actually make it harder by going places we're not quite ready for??? Something I hear a lot is "I thought I'd test myself and go"...........that's usually after a lapse that has come about by not having the right supports in place.
Sometimes I feel that we put so much pressure and expectation on the weekend, like it has to be amazing or we've wasted it. But why??? In simple terms, a good weekend is one where you're able to stay abstinent.
Did you go out with a plan A, B, C & D??? Did you have a phone number of someone to call if you were struggling? Another phone number in case that person didn't answer?? Did you have someone there that you could approach if you felt like you were struggling? Someone that could go for a walk with you if needed? Did you have an idea of a safe place to take a time out like a coffee shop around the corner, a park to sit in or some headphones in your pocket so you could take a break and listen to some tunes or a podcast? Did you drive so that you have to drive home?? Do you know what time the trains are and have enough in your account to get an Uber home if you need to make a quick escape?
There's plenty of ways you can take steps to protect yourself and you need more than just one option...........I'd love to hear what your safety plans consist of. Who or what helps keep you safe????

Re: Monday Meetup - Join us weekly!
I had alcohol over the weekend. One beer on Friday, and another on Saturday.
Even though it was only 2 beers i still feel bad about it.
I had them to be sociable. I knew it wasn't going to tip me into a binge, I felt like I actually had control over my consumption, but the fact that I still had it makes me feel like crap

Thanks for sharing @Keita
I remember that feeling.........stopping at just one on both nights would have been a miracle for me..........trouble for me was that because I got away with it once or twice I'd think I'd be able to control it this time............eventually it ended up taking me further downhill each time
The other thing is because I was beating myself up for the slip my mindframe bacame negative and pushed me downhill too
How do you think you'll handle it next time?

Re: Monday Meetup - Join us weekly!
Seeing as though this has been my first social gathering where I haven't actually gotten off my chops, I have to celebrate that I managed to have only 2 beers.
On the other hand though, I don't want to feel like I can let this slip every time I'm in a social situation because I know I could just easily have another and another and eventually be back in the cycle I'm trying to get out of.
I have contemplated buying 0% alcoholic beers, just so I can feel included and still be sociable

Gotta look at the positives @Keita and the fact that you got through it safely is definitely a positive
Love the self awareness to know that it probs won't happen every time too
I did Bundaberg Ginger Beer for a while........when I held it in a stubbie holder no one knew the difference

Stubbie holder! Gosh, why didn't I think of that! I've never needed one of those, the beer wouldn't last long enough in my hand to go warm lol now's my time to shine!
Thanks for that pointer!
