    Hello everyone,

It's time for some little quotes inspiration/motivation for the week.
“Our greatest glory consists not in never falling, but in rising up every time we fall.”- Oliver Goldsmith

    How does this quote relate to your journey? @Simply me @Gizelle @Deyfhob @Missy13 @Mishme @ScorpionPW @PnorkelPW @Katiee @Spankypompay @Notegrets @Alvarosyd

For me, this quote is not about aiming to be a perfect human, but rather finding the areas of opportunity to improve myself in every mistake I make. :D

My favourite phrase for many reasons is actually something my mum used to say

This is great quote @Peace Dove, thanks for sharing :)

This makes me think about my early recovery. I made a lot of mistakes and ended up in some painful situations whilst learning how to live again. Even while staying clean, building new relationships and making decisions in my life were so different not using.

One thing I always told myself was that as long as I didn't pick up, every mistake I made was something I could learn from. I welcomed new mistakes because that just showed me that I was having a crack at life, it was when I repeated the same mistakes over and over again that I would think I was in trouble.

The way that I became the person I am today, 12 years clean, living a rich, full and free life was through this process of trial and error in my early recovery. And looking back, I wouldnt change it for anything because I love my life and I love the person I am today.

I'm looking forward to hearing how this quote resonates with others on the forum :D

@Alvarosyd ………….that’s so true!! It was tiring trying to remember what stories I’d told to who and what lies I had to make up to keep those stories going. Life is so much easier these days because I just tell the truth which helps me establish and maintain my identity and boundaries

"What gets me sober might get you drunk and what gets me drunk might get you sober" - I love this quote that I heard at an AA meeting once because it reminds me that my recovery is as individual as my fingerprint and it's so important for each person to be empowered to discover what will work for them.

    Hi all,

Hope you're all having a Sunday funday. It's time to share an inspiring or motivating quote, so thought this week we could reflect a little on making mistakes.
“Remember that life's greatest lessons are usually learned at the worst times and from the worst mistakes.”

What do you guys think about this quote? Yay or nay? What sort of mistakes have taught you some of the most important lessons in your life? How have mistakes been part of your recovery journey @ScorpionPW and @PnorkelPW?

Would love to hear your thoughts on this quote and if this has been true or not for you in your lives @Simply me @Alvarosyd @Katiee @Deyfhob @Testarossa @Runz @Lhiver @Haleth @Krystie @apples123 @pdm411

I have made several mistakes whilst drunk and some of them had a very high monetary cost associated to them. Others were mentally and emotionally taxing and cost me friendships And relationships so I can definitely relate to that quote!

My quote for this week is

“You can have everything you want, not at the same time”

Thanks @peacedove………….I agree but needed to make some changes. I think my greatest lessons have been learnt BECAUSE of the worst times and BECAUSE of the worst CHOICES………..Language is big for me and I try to frame things differently these days.
I try not to look back at things as mistakes. For me they were choices I made based on the information I had at the time and the situations I found myself in. Sometimes they were the only choices I was able to make or capable of making. I like to look back and think about how if I’m ever in that situation again I can make a better choice. Addiction took away my ability to make choices, recovery has given that back to me. In addiction the only choices I had were based around how I fit everything in my life around my addictions, now I make choices to keep everything in my life without making the choice to go back old ways.
I try to look at where my choices took me, how I behaved when I made those choices, who I hurt, the impact those choices had on those around me and look for the lessons. My choices took me to the darkest times, the worst times, the times when my bahaviour was so far out of alignment with my true values that I couldn’t look at myself in the mirror and questioned my existence.
I think that’s what changed for me and why I’ve maintained recovery this time around. I look back at every time I decided I’d pick up again because the last few times I did were deliberate choices to do so. I thought I’d be able to control things. I thought this time would be different. Every time I made that choice though I found darkness I didn’t know could ever exist and went lower than I thought ever possible.
Now when I think about the choice to pick up again - because it is a choice for me, I lose the ability to make choices the second I pick up again - I think about the lessons that have come from me doing so before. The fact that I will never be able to control my addictions if I choose to activate them again. I’ve proven over and over that every time I pick up it doesn’t go to plan.
I’ve learnt that I can survive almost anything, how strong I can be, what it takes to do the internal work and maintain recovery. So yeah…………I don’t think I learnt my lessons at the time because I kept making the same choices. I learnt my lessons later BECAUSE of the choices I made.
These days I choose recovery because I always want to have the freedom of choice in my life.

My quote for today – “You have to fight through some bad days to earn the best days of your life”

Needed that reminder today @PnorkelPW so thanks for sharing.....

"Ïf you release what is within you, what is within you will save you...if you do not release what is within in you, it will destroy you."
    Jesus in Gnostic gospels
Not real big fan of some actions of the institutionalised religion birthed from his teachings, but do dig that....

I believe we are all busting with potentials, tho some days it's hard to see or feel, it's like seeds germinating underground in those dark times. Now we're heading towards Spring, the timings good for composting **** and planting out......

    Blessings n good vibes....

This is an interesting one @Peace Dove, very thought provoking that's for sure!

For me this has been true, but only when I learn from those mistakes and from difficult times.

This only happens when I find a way through without running from whatever pain arises. From not reaching for something outside of myself to change the way I feel.

If I'm making new mistakes, then I just see that as having a go at living life, trying new things and learning along the way. To be human is to make mistakes and to discover things about self, other and the world through trial and error.

But on the flip side, I have also found myself in patterns of repetitive mistakes and behaviour that does not serve me and nothing good comes from it until I realise what is happening and make a choice to change things.

I love your quote to @Deyfhob, reminds me that things don't always happen in my time and that I almost always get what I need exactly when I need it, I just can't see it at the time sometimes :D

I'd love to hear what this brings up for others?

    Hello everyone,

It's time for one of my favourite weekly activities. On this occasion, though we could reflect a bit on "honesty". Whether that be being honest with yourself, your friends or family....

"Honesty is often very hard. The truth is often painful. But the freedom it can bring is worth the trying" - Fred Rogers

Can any of you relate to this quote? Has this happened to you during your journey? Are you still struggling to be honest with yourself, friends, family or partners....

    Would love to hear your thoughts @ScorpionPW @PnorkelPW @Gizelle @Simply me @Deyfhob @Katiee @14days @Runz @Thatcrazycracker @HeitaWoorb @Alvarosyd @aliceterme @Rattle36 @Haleth @PG @alicejane @E Man

This is a great quote @Peace Dove,

This makes me think of before I was willing to accept that I needed to be completely abstinent from everything. For years, I would blame anyone/anything I could to avoid facing up to the fact that it was my drug use that was the route cause of all my problems. It was a difficult pill to swallow as well when using drugs was my coping mechanism and the only way I knew how to deal with the struggles of day to day life and living with past traumas.

It wasn't until I had exhausted all options and that the evidence was undeniable that I couldn't get away with using any substance under any circumstance that I was able to face up to this hard truth.

This was one of the most freeing realisations of my life, giving up the fight, letting go and not needing to try and control things anymore.

This initial realisation happened many years ago now and I look back at it, and my life in recovery today, and am so grateful that I was able to be honest with myself and begin a process of change that has taken me to places that are beyond my wildest dreams. Allowed me to experience things that the effect from any substance couldn't even come close to.

Honesty with self is the gateway to great freedom. Then, as honesty with self grows and expands, the greater ability we have to be honest with others and live in a way where our behaviours match our values. And for me, that's where true self acceptance and self love stems from.

Thanks for sharing that quote and allowing me to reflect on all of that :)
