    Hi there @Frangipanijazz
Welcome to the forums! Thankyou for sharing whats been going on for you. Sounds like its been quite tough.
Sometimes we get to a point where the realization kicks in all at once, leaving us to evaluate our lives and come to terms with what needs to change. I'm glad you have reached out. Those hobbies you have sound like they bring you genuine joy and can be most useful especially those times where you have an urge to drink

I'm wondering whether you have any current supports at the moment with either a counsellor or even a GP? what would be your biggest motivator to stop the drinking?

Cutting out any type of addiction does take some time and requires you to alter your response to urges to drink. Its a time to help break that automated routinely response many find themselves in.

Does anyone have any helpful advice/tips for Frangipanijazz at this time?

One week in (yet again) from no alcohol
Feel sad and sick but know it’s the process
Keep trying to reach out as the early days are a challenge and lots of work on mindset needing
    Just overwhelming sadness
    Family not interested
Trying to read recovery books as energy strikes
A drink would end this but is not the answer

Thank you for your support! Still going strong, working through cravings and insomnia. But slowly feelings of pride are creeping back in! One step at a time. I also reflected on the year and even though I have had relapses, I’ve been sober a lot more this year than I have been drunk! So massive improvements when I actually stop to acknowledge that - the hard bit after relapse.

    Hey there,

Having a real hard time with alcohol. I’m a binge drinker and I go on huge benders that often involve other drugs. I’m really sick of it. Have had periods of sobriety in the past but was in a relationship that helped maintain it.

Just don’t know what to do. Completely ruining myself. I wish alcohol wasn’t so important to everyone in society but that will never change.

Hey @MU1107 - that's a really valid point about alcohol playing such a ubiquitous role in society and yet it is so damaging. Thanks for taking the time to reach out. Has anything worked for you in the past around binge drinking?

    Hey Leonarda,

In the past it’s really only been abstinence but also avoiding Friday night drinks at work seems to help.

    Hey @MU1107
That sounds like a good strategy - the weekend and especially Friday night can be real triggers - I guess its about changing it up and training your brain to tune into something else that works - it usually takes about a month for another habit to form ...
    1. making the cue invisible
    2. make it difficult to access or do
    3. making the drinking unattractive or unsatisfying
Easier said than done of course :)

    Thanks Leonarda,

I’ve set a goal for this Friday to either not drink or take a medication that may help.
