    @Craig PW

Thank you so much for sharing those tips! I know a few members have mentioned that the social aspect has been a major challenge when it's come to recovery, so I'm sure this will be useful! Being wise about those you spend time with and how has such an impact on your outlook! :D

@TheDees I think it's easy to get wrapped up in all the things you can't do and what you're supposedly missing out on..........especially in early recovery. Gotta focus on what you can do instead of what you can't

The weekend used to spark a deep fear in me. When I was in active addiction it was because I never knew what would happen, who I would upset along the way, whether I'd be jnured and that horrible feeling of waking up thinkg "What the hell happened last night?" followed by the slow and painful memories as it all came flooding back............or worse..............the slow bleed during the week as more and more details emerged as I caught up with people and I'd cringe on the inside while pretending I didn't care on the outside.

Then the weekend sparked fear because I didn't know what I was going to do without my addictions. The fear of realising I didn't know how to live without them.

Over time that has all got better and I can happily live without my addictions. I can also happily live in the unknown. I don't know what's going to happen this weekend..............but I'm okay with that because I know no matter what happens, I don't have to give in to my addictions.

What scares you about the weekend...........or better still............what are you looking forward to this weekend?

Si it's Thursday again but not just any Thursday............another bloody Lockdown!!!

We've got through the last ones so we can get through this one but I know it's a time where some people really struggle. How are you feeling about it?

Actually.............what I'd really like to know is how you got through the last ones? Do you have any tips for others who might be struggling with the thought of another lockdown?

It's a time to be able to reflect on what worked for you and what you can implement this time to make it as safe as possible............so what are your thoughts?

I'm here live till 10pm AEST but am online every Monday and Thursday so can reply to any comments you might leave throughout the week too

Just some simple tips for lockdown

    Stay connected..........phone a friend.........get on zoom again

Get outside and use your exercise time..........get some fresh air..........staying locked inside all day isn't good for anyone.......maybe split your exercise time into two halves and get out morning and afternoon

Eat healthy...........keep your routine.........don't sleep too much and lose your rhythm

Give yourself a sense of achievement each day.......if it's completing a jigsaw, cleaning the bathroom or balancing three eggs on top of each other............set some goals and have some fun

Look after yourself everyone and reach out for help if you need it

It’s Thursday again………….what self care have you planned for the weekend?

I’ve spoken to a lot of people who are struggling this week and some who have been able to adopt a bit more of a positive approach. It’s probably important to mention here that I’m in Melbourne so this post isn’t going to resonate with everyone but it’s relevant for me today.
It’s lockdown again and we’ve been through it all before but there had started to be a bit of an attitude that we had come through the other side………this one just feels like a real setback. There’s some fear, some frustration, anger, despair……..but there’s also some hope…………it reminds me a lot of the recovery journey. Sure we’re going through it again but we’ve learnt some lessons from the other lockdowns that can help us get through this one too.
What’s important is that we look after ourselves. I’ve found that at times I have this feeling of being trapped………restricted………a loss of control. Recognising this has helped me work towards finding solutions………but also times where motivation has been hard to come by. I’ve set exercise goals each morning but have yet to achieve them. It’s been easier to stay in bed which isn’t healthy for me but I’ll set a new goal for tomorrow and treat it as a brand new day. I haven’t been able to go to the gym or pool but there’s nothing to stop me getting up and going for a walk at the athletics track or even just around the neighbourhood………..from putting some yoga on Youtube or another exercise routine.
The weekday stuff is one thing but it’s the weekend that causes me a bit of anxiety. Last week I wrote myself a list of jobs to give me some purpose and direction so I’ll try to concentrate on that. Keeping busy will be important for me but so will finding some balance and being sure to get some nature and have a rest too. I’ll be sure to schedule time for a nature walk too. I’ll phone some people I haven’t spoken to for a while because it’s not all about me…………maybe they need a check in too.
What I’m most blessed by for this weekend is that I picked my daughter up for the tonight and I haven’t seen her for two weeks due to lockdown. We’ll play some boardgames, cards and she can help me with some of the jobs on my list. Maybe we’ll even get creative and she can teach me some of the crafty ideas she comes up with………her imagination is awesome! We’ll be sure to catch up with a friend and her daughter who’s within the 10km radius and go for a nature walk……….probably the beach………..some human connection other than my daughter will be important.
What will you do to keep the boredom at bay?
